Shock towers

I am in the process of converting my 89 f150 2wd to 4wd. I aquired an 87 f-150 4wd for a donor vehicle however I havent picked it up yet. I read the tech article on the subject, however I have a question that I was hoping someone could answer. According to the article I can just unbolt the coil springs from the 4wd and just attach the whole ttb to my 2wd. the problem is, the 4wd that I got has the quad shocks on the front end (two shocks per side) I really dont want to remove the front shock towers because it looks like it would be a pain. Can anyone tell me if I can just remove the ttb and coil springs from the 4wd and bolt them to my 2wd shock towers with single shocks? I guess what I am asking is are the shock towers on a 2wd with single shocks the same as a 4wd with single shocks?
