I had a fella give me a motor, I pulled the heads, and found a bore that was less than 4" with a 3.5" stroke. Block has C7ME casting #. I figure its an FT332, since it had the big oil pan w/ oil pick up that goes to rear of pan. Heads are C8AE-H's. The pistons are different too. Is this block worth fooling with? I plan to do the drill bit test just out of curiosity ( have never done it b4 ), what would it tell me reguarding how much it could be bored ( like maybe to standard 4.050 390 size ). Thanks for any info you might offer, Al
The smallest bore for the FE was 4.00" The 330 had a smaller bore though and it was from the FT family. You might have an oddball combo someone threw together.
Well I went out to the garage to play around with it awhile. It has a cast iron timing cover, the bottom 4 bolts, which are longer for the front mount I'm thinking, are the same as the bolts that go thru the rocker pedestals that oil the rockers. Kinda strange I thought. I used my handy dandy Craftsman allen wrench set ( couldn't find my drill bits ) and a 9/64th wrench fit a little loose in some spots, wouldn't go in some others, and was right on the money in others. Theres no ridge in the bores using the 'ol finger nail technique. I wonder what kind of comp ratio this thing had with the flat top FT pistons ( looks right at top of deck with piston up ) and C8AE-H's? Also has a fairly big X cast into one cyl bank in the lifter galley. Al
I came across a motor that had a 330MD block bored out to a 390. They're not bad blocks. Most of them have high nickel content as well as other elements added, reiforced main line, stock high volume oil pump, thick cylinder walls and overall toughness. I've heard some of these block can go out to a 428 and a while back I considered turning one of these FT motors into a nice little race motor.
