Question Correct valve push rod length?

I am rebuilding my '53 215ci OHV inline six engine and have a question. I found some NOS FoMoCo push rods on eBay. Their part number is B6A-6565-E. I couldn't find this number in my parts books but it says right on the box that they replace EAA-6565-C which is the part number listed in my 1953 truck chassis parts catalog.

However, these push rods are about 1/4" shorter than the ones that came out of the engine I'm rebuilding. My parts engine also had longer push rods. I found a reference to two different push rod lengths in a Mac's Auto Parts catalog. Why were two push rod lengths available? It sure doesn't look like the shorter ones will work in my engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unhappy

Wow, nobody even has a guess? I'm disappointed. Looks like I'll have to reuse my old push rods to be safe. I don't think the rocker arms have enough adjustment in them to make up a 1/4" difference in length.

Hi

Just to give you some sort of answer the B6A is for a 56 ford car (B=5,6=6,A=ford car) now what that has to do with a engine I have no idea.

Just because the box maybe correct it dosn't mean you have the correct parts in the box. What you have maybe for a 56 V8 Y-Block

As far as pushrod length I have no idea, actually I thought both the V8 and I6 in 53 were flatheads I guess that just shows how much I know.

I originally thought I had mis-boxed parts but I have three boxes of four pushrods each and they all have the same description. The note in Mac's catalog leads me to believe there were two lengths available but I have no idea why.

Thanks!

The 215 and 223 shared the same rods until the new 223 head/rockers/block came out in late 60. The late 223 uses short rods.
There was even a zero lash rocker assembly that was used in some 61-4 models and used aluminum rockers and its own rods!

No wonder the vendors get confused.

You want 215 & early 223 specific only.

Carl,

Thanks for the explanation! I guess when the FoMoCo box says it replaces another part number that doesn't mean it's a direct swap, huh?

I might have learned something today!
