It seems that the stock radio/cassette 4 spkr system in my'96 van had a lot more ***** than the same system in my '03.
I want to upgrade to a radio with cassette and CD, I see a lot of Ford radios on Ebay. Are they all the same? Will one unit out of an Explorer plug right into my van? If so, are there any particular years that are more powerful?
As long as the connectors are the same- it will fit. Some explorers in the ninetys used JBL systems and they will not work. There will be two connectors, one 16 pin for power, speakers, and 12 pin (i think I cant remeber exact number of pins) but its for the control of aux. equipment such as cd changer, rear radio controls etc.
As far as power goes, any radio that has a RDS button has more power than the others.
Well, I bought one off of Ebay. A cassette with the RDS button and the controls if I want to add the remote CD player. Now to see if it really has more power!
I don't think all that is correct. Some stereos had a separate amp, some didn't. My 95 ranger am/fm/cassette had an internal amp, and when I replaced it with an am/fm/cd I found out that the headunit I purchased required a separate amp. The am/fm/cd in my 03 ranger has an internal amp. All of the looked the same on the back side.
