vacuum leak in ventilation controls?
When under load, the ventilation on my 95 F150 5.0 closes. It returns to normal when back on level ground and the load decreases. I'm pretty sure it is a vacuum leak in the vent controls, but I cannot hear anything under the dash or in the engine compartment. The truck runs normally and has not lost any power. This problem will appear for months at a time, go away for months, and then come back. It is not temperature dependent (engine or outside air). Any obvious places to check or parts to replace? I did a search for past posts on this subject, but came up empty.
Could be the vacuum motor(s) on the heating unit itself, but an easy spot to check is to take out the heater/AC controls and look at the clear rubbery plastic thing the colored vacuum hoses go into. With the truck running and the radio off, you'll hear leaking if its pulled apart.
Easily replaced, two nuts, and the 89 through 95 taurus/sable uses the exact same part as the 92 through 98 F-series and bronco's.
I mention that because its easier to find a taurus in the junkyard than an F-series, at least here.
In fact, my entire heater control assembly is from a taurus! Bolted right in!
