Don't drive around with the tailgate down in a '04 F150. With the torsion bar making the apparent weight of the tailgate so much less heavy, the slightest bump in the road may send the tailgate closing with enough force to possibly damage it or at least scare the bejeezus out of you!

i have a 95 ford that had a roll top on it. manufacurer was promoting it as a fuel saver/ mileage enhancer, but i only ever got 11.5mpg, city/hiway mixed. i took it off last year with about 120,000 mi. because it was just looking ratty. the moral here is to ride with tailgate down but not if you have the new 04s.
