Have any of yall used the carb. plate for holley to save the power valves??my dad is looking for one for his holley 4 barrell, because every time the car does the least little backfire the power valve goes out. i was just wondering if anyone has used it and does it help
I'm not sure about a plate- it seems to me that if a plate is inserted to prevent the pressure of a backfire it will also prevent the vacuum needed to operate the power valve.
Holley makes a kit that allows you to install a check valve in the carb to prevent a backfire from blowing out your power valve.
What's the sysmptom of a blown out power valve. My holley feels like the accelerator pump in not working correctly. I've had a couple of good backfires because timming was way off...
If your carb was tuned correctly before the power valve was damaged, then you might experience all the things associated with an over-rich mixture: hesitation, stumble, sluggish on acceleration, and a sharp increase in fuel consumption. If your carb happened to be giving you problems before the power valve was damaged, you might not notice any difference.
well, i got the power valve sheild, and its not a plate as i thought it was, it was a screw, and another little piece to plug up the hole next to the screw, im going to put my performance distributor in before i try to crank it
well, its in a 1984 mustang with a 302, and i got in it and cranked it up when we put the new power valve before it went out, and when i pushed the gas down to about 2000 rpms, you could hear a little pop, out of the tailpipe, then it wouldnt idle below 1500, but it was idling fine before you heard the pop, so when he changes distributors today, then we'll see how it does.
