gear ratios
i have a 2003 f-250 5.4l 4+4 auto trans. w/od...... i have 410's i'm thinking of switching to 373's since i dont really tow very often i'm wondering what the fuel savings may be ??

I asked the question when I got a 2001. I wanted to go the other way. You have to change both front and rear diff's. Cost was est. to be over $700. Live with it, I doubt the gas milage savings would be worth it, i.e. small savings.

keep the 4.10's.... i think you would be sad if you swapped. With the 5.4L the 4.10's are great cause they gear it juyst a little lower for that more torquey feel. the cost to swap would never be worth it for fuel savings.. unless you drive it for like a gagillion years.

The 5.4 is even more gut-less with 3.73s, the 4.10s are the only way to go! When on the highway it downshifts to much, hurting fuel milage and tranny, the 4.10s seem to be able to hold gears more and be easier on the truck, I really can tell a big differnce between the two gears, if you really want taller gears then go a couple sizes bigger tires the next time around. To bad they don't offer the 4.30s with the 5.4, I would jump on that! It's a lot easier on the tranny if you don't have to burn up the clutch packs and torque converter taking off. Be happy that you have the gears that you do!

heck, if you really want 3.73 i'll do an even swap with you. i would much rather have the 4.10's. im dead serious about the swap too. i have the same truck same year and i drive like an old man ahahahaha.
