Sank like a rock!

I thought I would share this story with you guys about what happened yesterday to my PSD. I was in some grassland showing a partner of mine, the property when I drove into a real wet saturated area of the ground. The PSD went down on all 4's to the frame and I mean in a hurry, instant STUCK!!! Thank goodness for cell phones as I was able to call a friend of mine to bring his big farm tractor to pull me out. Found out how good the tow hooks are on the front as we had to jerk it to get it comming out of the deep ruts. My thought after all of this is, the Diesel engine must be very very heavy! I couldn't believe how fast the front end went down. My question is, how much more weight does the Diesel engine add to the front of the SD over the gas V-10 or V-8? Kinda felt like that Chevy (YUK) commercial where they state they are solid like a rock where as I was STUCK like a rock ! Oh well, after all that, took the SD to the car wash , cleaned it up (took $8) and left a portion of my grassland on the wash bay floor. Even after all of this, the PSD SD's are still the best

Just a footnote: if I had been driving a Chevy, I would have walked away from it and hoped the buzzards would have consumed it..HE HE

I don't know the weight of the gas engines you asked about, but when you ship a PSD long block, you pay freight on 1000 lbs.

Just finished taking all 4 tires off the PSD. Them spoked rims that are standard equiptment on an 02 sure let alot of mud collect in them. Viberated somthing awful after I finally got out. Have a 5 gallon bucket of real estate on my shop floor.

I used to go off road ALOT. I took my 03 to the strip mines to let the boys ride the quad and I got stuck on the service road. A little more agressive tire would have saved me that day but I will never go off road with this truck. I would but when it does get stuck normal recovery efforts do not work. It takes something as big or bigger to get you out.

Sounds like you drove yourself into a wetland. From your description, I think you woulda got stuck in almost any large truck. But the diesel don't help. My 01 cc 4x4 weighs in at 7,200. With my skinny 235's I haven't even been on the beach yet cause I'm afraid I'll sink.

The PSD weighs about 1200 to 1300 lbs about 600 to 700 more pounds than the v-10.

Thanks 78fordman...I knew it was heavy because when I floor jacked it up to take off the wheels, it was a load! Still think it's a great truck and engine. Talk about dedication to my truck, yesterday was real nice so I parked it on a concrete slab, laid down kinda underneath it and power washed the underside. Looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Anyone else went to this extreme to clean up a truck that has been stuck?

I know the feeling, I got stuck in my 01 the first time we took it hunting, It sank like a rock and took 6 hours to dig it out with 4 guys. Since then I have put on 315-75R16 (35x12.5) and a 12000 lb warn and haven' thad any problems, only had to use the wench once for me (have had to use it 3 times for my neighbors dura max). I think that the larger tires made the biggest difference.

And many hours laying on the drive way washing off the undercarrage.

Thanks guys....I'm glad to see that someone else went to the trouble to wash the underside. I figured some of you would think I was nuts doing that! I'm just a "stickler" for perfection.

You guys talk about washing the side of your truck that the mice see, I went through the trouble of stripping the axles and frame on my truck to bare metal, prime, and painted everything. Looks better than off the showroom floor. Now my truck gets the same treatment topside and bottom. Crazy maybe, but it's real easy to spot leaks should there be any.

Got my 03 cc lbed 350 with stock 265's on it stuck on a sand bar along the Mississippi river last year. My buddy's got out and back with their 1500 gasser bows, but I got stuck backing off of it not going on to it( couldn't turn the that long of truck around without getting in more trouble) 285 bfg's would have been a hugh differance. One of the 1500 guys who also has a duramax, said he was impressed it made it that far, and was sure he wouldn't have got a truck lenght before he was stuck. It took a floor jack, shovel, and 2 16' 2x10's to get it up and out of the muddy sand, but once up, I drove it right back across and off.
