I've got a 52 F1, and just installed Toyota p/s box. Problem is the previous owner modified the frame by welding homemade engine mounting plates to the frame. the plates are angeled downward and have only one mounting hole in each. The holes are one inch below the top of the frame, and are 13 inches across from hole to hole. I checked different engines at the junkyard and it looks like a 1974 F100 360/390 will drop right in, but it's a front sump oil pan. That would put the pan one inch above the front axle. Does anyone know what rear sump engine will fit???
Thanks Scot, didn't think of that...yet common sense still gnaws at me...should I stick with 302 or 351, do they have the same bolt pattern and dimensions. I'm not familiar with Ford power, always went Ford bodies and GM power.
How different are the mounts between older (70-80) and newer (81-present) F100-F150s??? Guess I've narrowed it down to a 289/302 or 351, whatever I can get cheap. since the last owner cut off the engine mounts and fabricated his own, I'm having nightmares about having to fabricate my own mountings out of angle iron and hockey pucks....
A friend came by today and he took some measurements of the homemade motormounts in my 52 F1. It was designed to support a mid '70s GM, Chevy 350ci with a 350 auto trans to be exact. He said it was set up for racing with the engine bolting directly to the mount without a rubber pad in between. All I have to do is drill two holes on each mount and drop in a Chevy, with the pads of course...Now on to the next set of problems.
