Question ball joint question

when i hit bumps or expansion joints my left front end makes a thumpin' noise???? Any ideas? Could it be the ball joints or anything else? Any type of test i can do to isolate the problem? thanks.

Could be shock mount or trackbar mount,
chk spring shackle .

Ball joint is easy to chk ,if you have a floor jack and a 5-6 ft piece of pipe. jack up one side put pipe under the tire and try to raise up if you see any movement between the ball joint an axle knuckle its bad.

Hows the tire wear on that side? any cupping?

thanks for the info!! no more cupping than usual. The BFG mud terrains are great........had some some goodyear all terrains before and they were horrible. the truck has almost 80k miles on it and the shocks are original, but they still seem fine.......no bounce. I'm still on the original brake pads too........gotta love a FORD!!!

hey 99f350sd thanks for the response, but what makes you so sure that the big bushing on the sway bar is the problem? that sounds like it should be a pretty easy fix......you done it?
