swap problems, HELP!!!!!

ok, first of all I have an 88 5.0 efi.
I bought an 88 5.0 out of a station wagon. I took the car intake off and put the one on from my bronco, swapped all other nesasary goodies, put new valve seals in, and re torqued the rockers according to the specs. I cant get the friggin thing to run right at all. it is running REALY ritch, and wont idle, it spitts and spuders rally bad.
I do not have the knock sensor installed on the motor as there isn't a spot for it, also running the distributor from the car.

HELP!!!!!! THIS THING IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!

There is something wrong with your O2 sensor, or coolant temperature sensor.

Can you tell me where that knock sensor was located on your truck engine? Is it in the block, or the intake manifold? Also, what is the thread size/count on the knock sensor? Reason I ask is I am getting ready to swap a '84 towncar 302 into my '87 f150 and want to know about the knock sensor.

Thanks,
Joel

the knock sensor was mounted at the back of the block just behind the intake manifold on the truck motor. couldn't find where it was located on the car block, but I've been told as long as it is threaded into the block or heads somewhere it will work fine

Your first post said you aren't using your knock sensor. Could this be part of your problem? I'd think you'd be getting codes and a check engine light without the sensor.

The knock sensor is only on the 5.0 trucks not the 5.8 If you're running rich it's probably either the O2 sensor or the fuel pressure regulator.

A knock sensor is a sensor that looks alot like the old coolant temp sensors, they are usually mounted in the block or head, they basically sense excessive vibrations in the engine and send a signal to the ecm to correct the problem,by adjusting timing, fuel trim, etc.

First, did the truck run properly before this swap, and second, you say you changed the intake,I take it you mean the plenum, which leads me to ask,is this the iac motor from the truck engine, and can you give me fuel rail pressure readings, although a bad or missing knock sensor will set a code and turn on the ck engine light,I think we can safely rule it out because it only makes corrections to basic engine operation,in other words if everything else is working properly, the knock sensor just sits there and waits to sense a problem.ck the plenum gasket with carb cleaner or something similar, spraying along the edge like you would on the old carb baseplate gaskets, vacuum leaks make strange things happen!
