My First Ford

I have just bought my first Ford Truck. 30 and finally have a 1972 F-250. I am having a blast! I just replaced the carb (which I have never done) I have some questions and although the 1972 Chiltons has been great I thought I would ask some experts.

1. I am replacing the manifold gaskets tonight....any suggestions or tips?

2. My wires to from the Solenoid and alternator to the voltage regulator are a mess. I replaced the alternator and had burnt wires going to the old one that I replaced but battery still not charging when Altenator is running. Can I simply the connections going to the regulator?

I have never worked on cars and learning as I go. Any help would be great.

Congrats and welcome.
Which gaskets are you replacing? Intake manifold or exhaust manifolds?
When you do the intake, it is more or less part of the head.
You will have to remove the pushrods in order to get the intake off. Make sure you note where each pushrod came out and replace it back in it's original spot.
Be sure you drain your coolant first.
If you are doing the exhaust, hit them with some penatrating spray and let them sit. You can, and it is very likely to happen, break off at least one exhaust manifold bolt.

Good luck
