97 F150 standard cab 5 speed manual
116500 miles

Underpowered....
Coolant loss, overheated ---> New front cover gasket at 42,000 miles...
Ran fine until...
Noticed a slight knocking when changing gears last week, checked coolant, it was low. Added water and saw an oily sheen appear. While driving to get oil for an oil change (too late!) it started knocking like crazy!
So now its rebuild time...

This website will explain your problem in detail, as well as point you in the right direction for complaint filings with Ford and government agencies.
