I'm looking at upgrading the suspension on my 2000 Excursion PSD. Bilstein vs. Edelbrock shocks - which is better? Any suggestions? Helwig vs. Ford rear stabilizer? Roadmaster Active Suspension vs. Timbren Aeon vs. Land Yot Radius Bars.
I'm not looking at pulling anything. Just looking for a nice smooth ride, with great tracking, cornering, eliminating axle pull, etc.
Looking for a nice Mercedes like feel.
Most of my driving is hwy and in town, shuttling the kids around, etc.
How are the Michelin LTX - E?
I'm not sure if I need Bilstein 4000 or 5100 series. I have not changed anything from stock. Thanks for the help.
I also have a 2000 X 4x4 no lift with a V10. I just installed Bilstein shocks that I purchased from Bestforeignparts.com for $40 a piece shipped to my door. I also installed the Hellwig sway bar that I purchased from summitracing.com for $138 plus shipping. The improvement in ride is ubelievable! Everything that I have read on this forumn is right on. These upgrades are a must, and I did mine for only $300. That is as much as you will pay for shocks alone.
Thanks for your replies. I just bought a brand spankin new 2004 PSD LTD today. I don't know if I should wait a bit before installing the Bilstein's and Hellwig or not. I don't plan on doing any towing in the forseeable future. The Bilstein/Hellwig combinatiion definately seem like a good move along with installing Landyot radial rods from what I've read on this site. I plan on using this strictly for street, no offroad, so any more lift I don't see as being needed.
I've just received delivery on my new truck last week. The ride's not bad! I heard somewhere that Ford is now putting on Rancho's as stock. I may be replacing the stock rear anti-sway with the Hellwig as this is a better bar along with putting on the Landyot Radius Rods at some point. Have you checked out the Landyot Radius Rods? From what I've been reading...they're also a great improvement.
Congradulations!!! I don't think I've seen that color yet, sounds nice, is it new?
I've been reading the same stuff (about Landyot's Radius Rods) and it all sounds good. But since I don't tow anything and the handling improve so much with the new shocks and swaybar I feel satisfied. For the next upgrade I'm leaning more toward an exhaust upgrade or a new grill.
Since you have the newest truck of anyone I've talked to, would you look at the distance between your front bump stops and the springs. Check out the thread started by 97_expy5_4 titled "Front Bump Stops". My front end is also a little harsh going over bumps and I have about a two inch clearence. Just courious.
