Thermostat- A/C problem?
My problem is the heater works, but the A/C does not anymore. When I turn the thermostat from hot (red) to cold (blue), the air coming from the vents immediately gets very hot very fast (in a few seconds). I have never let it get beyond a minute or so for fear of fire. This occurs both right after start-up and also after running for awhile. Basically I have no A/C right now. The heater works as it should--plenty hot after a few minutes of driving in the winter. Best I can tell, the compressor seems to be cycling fine. The only thing I noticed however was that last summer the compressor would cycle rapidly while I was at a stop light (click imn, click out, click in, click out.....) and the RPMs would drop slightly as the compressor would click in/click out. Any correlation? Also, last summer I put 2 cans of R-134 in before the problem. Could I have overpressered the system? Or is it maybe just the thermostat behind the heater controls? Anyone have any ideas or KNOW for SURE?
Any ideas on what the problem is? Please advise.
I next turned the A/C on A/C Max with the 'thermostat' indicator pointing to blue (cool) and the air from the vents was noticeably much cooler (but not totally cold).
So, do you all think it is the blend door? Anything else it could be? As FYI, the compressor seems to be kicking in/kicking out fine (still a bit fast, but not bad). Any suggestions?
Was there already ref. in the system before you put the cans in there? Do you have a way to check what your discharge pressure is? You could have too much ref. in the system.
Your compressor may be cycling on and off due to your high pressure cut-out.
just a thought...
