Ok I am confused here.... What excatly is are you talking about when you talk about the soup bowl???? Where is it excatly???
I purchased 85 E350 6.9 have looked around at the air cleaned and I am unsure as to what you guys are talking about ...
Take yar air cleaner lid off. flip it up side dwon and ya shoulkd be looking rite at a big old upside down tin bowl welded/rivetd to the lid. Thats the soup bowl. while yar looking at it go ahead and cut it off. gives ya more power and better mpg.
you can't miss it it looks like a derby hat, and if you can't find it you can have mine, i cut it off couple days ago.lol makes a difference sure nuff. thanks guys.
Om the e series the bottom of the air cleaner has a smaller hole than the f series, cut the hole where it sits on the intake to the same size as the opening in the intake. The vans are different due to the air cleaner being a lower profile so it will fit in the limited space you have under there, thats why there is no bowl on tha lid.The bowl and/or the smaller hole are mainly there to act as a noise dampening, although they do restrict air flow.
No,its the actual hole that sits on the intake,on f series that hole is the same size as the hole in the intake.Remove your lower section of the breather and look at the size of that hole as compared to the size of the intake hole.
Had one on the old man's 84, still there actually, poor old thing anyway.... My 86 had the small hole in the bottom of the air cleaner base, cut it out to the size of the plenum never noticed any change in sound.......
I cut my soup bowl out a few weeks ago. so far I've noticed a some power increase and if I stay off the throttle the milage is up a lot. I was getting 15 and my last tank (just tonight) calculated out at 18. and I'm pretty sure thats still winterized fuel. Cutting it out has so far been great Wish I did it sooner.
