If all goes well order time for new truck coming soon.
Does anyone have one of the following setups? If so,
what kind of mileage are you getting, and are you
happy with your truck?
F250SD 4X4 supercab with longbed
V-8/auto/373 rear end
or same truck with V-10/auto/373
Will be used mainly for commute and some bed hauling,
rarely for towing. Thanks!
V-10. Reason? Resale, resale, resale. Heavy duty (or super duty in this case)trucks are bought by people to do heavy duty things. When it comes time to get rid of it, resale will be easier and higher with a V-10. The milage difference on a 4x4 will not be alot different due to the height of the height of the truck and the airflow under it. I get about 13 mpg with my V-10/auto/3.73LS with 305's on it. That's about what I got with my '94 F150, and this is alot more truck. Overall, I am very satisfied with my truck, having had it since March, 1998 with no major problems. Minor problems included: no limited slip, I had to put it in; and the truck came with FIREBOMBS on it! I had them off within 200 miles in favor of Goodyears. Oh, I also had the "piston slap problem", but Ford replaced the engine with NO hassle, a real class act. My personal list of "must haves" for a 4x4: limited slip, otherwise your 4x4 is really only two wheel drive, snow plow package, so that you're truck sits closer to level without aftermarket kits, and power trailer tow mirrors, which even if you don't tow, allow you to see everything behind you all the time. Good luck.
Thanks blackbeauty.
Your'e probably right on resale, this is farm country with
a lot of livestock and grain trailers being towed. V-10 would
probably resell much faster. I hadn't considered that. Thanks-
good point! As for limited slip, I forgot to mention that. I
would never order 4X4 or 4X2 without- to much snow here. My
fathers GMC sits in the garage much of the winter due to lack
of LS. I currently have 89 Chevy 3/4hd 4x4 with LS, ready for
a change and really like the F250/350 SD's.
I have had two fords with limited slip and they don't work sometimes. I had them repacked more than once and they would be fine for a while and then they would do the same thing...I ordered my new sd without this time. Why pay for something that don't work when your bumper deep in mud! I had ordered with the snow plow package but changed my mind. I liked the better ride without and a fellow working close by to my job has a 1.5" lift kit in the front to level off the truck. When he puts a small load in it or hooks up his tamdem utility trailer it sits a bit low in the back and to me looks rather dorky. IMO when you put a big lift kit in a truck, level looks good. But I rather like a very small rake with the stock set up. This is just my preference and to each his owne. Good luck in your choices! BTW this site is a great place to learn from others to help make your choices!!!!!
Hopefully Tuseday of this week is delivery day for my 2002,f-250,super cab,lariet,v-10,auto,373(which I chose because I will stay close to the stock tire height), chrome steps, cab lights, trailer tow mirrors. I will add a rancharo steering dampner, stainless steel tublar grill inserts and if I need the front end brought up a bit the local spring shop will do it for cheap money.
In 96 I bought an 97 f-150,xlt, 5.4, regular cab, stepside, offroad, with power captian seats, limited slip, ect! The truck had a bit of a shake the day I drove it off the lot. Needless to say after 5-6 times to the dealer with everything from drive shafts to a complete rear end assembaly I demanded my money back. After another month of ford reps and what not ford agreed to get me another, this was when there was a 17" wheel shortage and took them 4 months to get me a truck. Mean while I racked up 10000 miles on the buy back one. I have been happy with that truck and with how ford handled the whole thing.
