tail gate safety switch
Can I access the tailgate safety switch from out
side the truck? Maybe through the taillight assembly? Or is it inside the tailgate? What are the colors of the two wires I need to cross to jump past this switch.

The safety switch is inside the tailgate itself. On the drivers side next ot the latch. You have to open the tailgate and remove the access panel inside.
As for the color of wires...here is a link to the wiring diagram for the tailgates. SHould help you in doing what you need to do.

Just cut it out and connect the RED-YEL and TAN-BLK wires together. I did it this weekend and it's so much nicer not having to wonder if it's going to go up again thanks to the switch. I mean honestly, when was the last time you almost put your window up when the tailgate was down? I gutted my tailgate and put all new pieces in. You really can't even see the switch with the access panel off because the driver's side window track is in the way. If you can wiggle your hand in behind there, you should be able to remove it.

You don't have to open the tailgate to get to the switch; just remove the access panel and reach in there. It makes it a lot easier to remove the window later down the road to not have the switch, since you'll be able to make it go up and down with the tailgate open.
