Hello all! I have a `92 F150 , 302 , E4OD trans. , 3.55 LSD . The owner manual says I`m good for 11500 GCWR. My truck weighs 5016 lbs. with full tanks and me in it . So , I should be able to go up to 6000 lbs, with a fifth wheel?I currently tow a 24 foot travel trailer , 3955 lbs. dry weight ;using the proper hitch stuff.(eq bars , sway control) I only tow about 25 miles a few times a year. Any recomendations or advice? Will the truck be ok under the load of the fiver? I have extra leafs , that were factory installed. I`m not sure , but I think the suspension on the truck is like that of the F150 7700.
GVWR is the total weight your truck can be when you include all your gear and tongue weight.
Example: IF your truck has the following
GVWR=7700 Lbs
Actual vehicle weight wet =5016 Lbs
Usefull load capacity: 7700-5016 = 2684Lbs
Usefull load capacity is reduced by passengers, luggage, trailer tongue weight, etc.
GCWR is the total weight of your truck, all your gear and gross trailer weight.
Example: If your truck has the following
GVWR=7700Lbs
GCWR=11,500 Lbs
Actual vehicle weight wet=5016 Lbs
Usefull vehicle load capacity=2684 Lbs
Usefull max trailer load 11,500-5016 = 6484 Lbs
Now here is the kicker, with your current bumper pull trailer of 3955 Lbs, you have a tongue weight of 10-15% or 396-594 Lbs which takes away from your Useful vehicle load capacity of 2684 reducing it to 2090-2288 Lbs.
With a new 5th wheel/Goose neck of 6000Lbs the hitch load is 20-25% of Max trailer weight or 1200-1500 Lbs, which takes away from your Useful vehicle load capacity of 2684 reducing it to 1184-1484 Lbs.
In conclusion Yes you can tow a 6000 Lb 5th wheel/Goose neck and not exceed your GCWR but you only have an additional 484 Lbs you can load in your truck without exceeding your GCWR. And you must always be aware not to over load your trucks GVWR.
I have a stock 1986 F-250 reg. cab, long bed, lariat 4x4 with a 351W and 4.10 rear. Does anyone have a close approximation of the vehicle weight - without a load?
I have an 84 F-250 351w. 2 wheel drive, standard cab, long bed. I drove over to the dump and had the truck weighed empty, with me in it. 4500lbs. is what it weighed.....
I also drove mine to the dump , and when i went on the scale , the truck and cargo with me in it , weight was 2510 kilograms , or
5552 pounds. After the load was dumped , i again drove over the scales , and the tare weight was 2280 kilograms , or 5016 pounds. Bear in mind that my truck has 3/4 ton suspension , and is a supercab with 8 foot box , 155 inch wheelbase.
My truck at the dump weighed in at 6660 lbs. Thats with a crossover box and tools in the back around, I'm guessing aroung 300 lbs, with about 25 gallons of gas.
OK , looked at the sticker on tha door , it says GVWR is 6250 .
GAWR for rear is 3800 pounds. Looks like the fiver might be out , but owner manual says good for 11500 pounds GCWR. I do have 5 leafs in the back , I wonder , anyone know if this is stock , or (i bought the truck used ) aftermarket addon? In any case , it tows my current TT of 3955 pounds dry weight ok.
