Hey all, I have this engine block sitting in my shop and was wondering what it was? The numbers on the back of the block are:OZ580003, the water pump says C9AE-8505-A, and the timing cover is C8AE-6059-B4A. My dad says he pulled it out of a cop car way back in the 70's. Any input would be grately appreciated!
Look for the casting number on the block, it is on the right side of the block (when viewed from behind) on 429/460 blocks (not sure about other engine families), right behind where the starter would be.
Also, to determine if it is a 429 or a 460, you need the crank casting number, found on the 3rd counterweight from the front of the crank. 4U, 4UA = 429 and 2Y, 2YA, 2YAB, 2YABC(68-78) and 3Y(79-up) = 460.
For sure it's an "FE" motor, you will need the block casting number to narrow it down more. I'm willing to bet it's a 390 or 428 PI motor. It should be something like C5AE-B or C6AE-F. BTW, that is a replacement water pump, so all it really does it narrow it down to the "FE" family.
