98 F150 General Questions

Hey All

First I was wondering if any out there uses the Green or K&N Air filter and if there are any benifits or or dangers to using them.

Second I need to get the inside door panel off my truck because the door handle just came loose. But under the 2 covers there are just plastic punches and not screws. Do I break them off and then buy new ones somewhere or is there a way to get them out?

Thanks All
Scott

To get the door panel off, pull off the vertical top piece and there should be a screw there. Pop out the piece around the door handle and I there should be another screw there (not sure about your year truck) If you have manual windows the window crank cover lifts up and then turn it out of the way, there is a torx screw in there. If you have power windows, pop out the control panel and disconect the wiring. That should be it, pull the panel straight UP NOT OUT.

As for K&N filters, everyone has a different opinion. I have an Airraid intake and resuable filter, I think it has made a little difference but it definatly hasn't hurt anything. I would not use it if you drive in very dusty environments, because it can let in more dust than paper filters. Just my opinion, hope that helps

RE:

Thanks for the quick reply.

Acutally there are no screws under the vertical peice which I thought was very strange as well. All there is is a round plastic rivet like and anchor that is holding the panel to the door frame. Im thinking you must just have to break it and buy new ones to rehang the panel when you want to put it back on. Im sure the ford dealership is the only ones that have that size

Very strange.

Thanks again.

Does the anchor have a round pin in the middle? If so just push it in untill it clicks and that unlocks it, then you can reuse it. If not I guess you just have to pop it off.

You push the center pin of the rivet looking thing in about 1/8" or so and then the rivet pulls out. When it's out you push the center pin back so it sticks out the front of the rivet. To reinstall you just push the rivet in and then the center pin.

I have a K&N filter in my 98 F150. Can't tell you if there's any major difference, but I've got 153k miles on it, and keep it clean, and it still runs pretty damn well. If anything, that 50 bucks went a long way, (well, call it 90 bucks, I've bought two cleaning kits over time) Seems like I've saved a few bucks because of it, so if nothing else, I'd say it's worth it for that alone.

RE:

Thanks all for all the help.

Pushing in the Pin did work just as you described. I'm a wizard when it comes to computers, but with vehicles pretty clueless!

Thanks again
