What is this?

What are the wires inside the fuse box area (right side) marked "customer access - see body building book for installation instructions" for. There is a red, royal blue, black, white, and a light blue w/yellow line.

I also see a black round plug mounted on the front toward your legs. And a gray 5 pin plug hanging on the other side of the fuse box metal support. Nothing is plugged into these. Any ideas.

I want to add a CB, aux. driving lights, and the rear ID 3 light bar.
Just wondering if any of these can be used.

Obviously , I know nothing about electric in trucks. Your help will be much appreciated!

They might be installed for the trailer tow package. If you have a rear sway bar, I bet you have a trailer tow package.

I would find a spot in the fuse box for the CB.

I would hook the driving lights directly to the starter relay battery post with a fuse. The driving lights should come with a relay. The diagram below shows wiring for foglamps, but it would be the same for driving lights too.

I don't know what the lights are in the rear you are talking about. Are they the little red running lights? If so, I would tap into the rear harness brown wire for these.

Franklin2,
Thanks for your detailed reply!! Yeah, the rear lights are the running lights normally found on a dually. I can't stand messing with electric, so please bear with me.

I just have to splice into the brown wire for that light? The rear light kit says it includes a harness? Sounds like multiple wires.

I do have the trailer tow package, so that gray plug is the stock trailer brake pre-wire?

Thanks for the driving light diagram! As for the CB, how do you attach to the fuse box? I am a definite electrical idiot!

Your help is big time appreciated. I'm trying to save money by doing these myself!!

I always ran a length of coax directly to the starer relay post for power,& beside it for ground.
Coax is shielded and therefore provides a great power supply directly to the radio.

I thought coax was just for antennas? and where is the starter relay?

The brown wire splice for the rear running light is all I have to do to get them working correct?

and what are those wires that are not hooked up to anything behind the fuse box panel? "customer access"?

Need help guys setting the CB and running lights. I guess I need the elementary or even kindergarden version!

I haven't had any experience with the newer trucks and their fuse boxes. But you can get what they call "fuse taps" for the old style plastic push-in fuses. This is a thin piece of metal that hooks around the end of the fuse. Pull the fuse out, hook the fuse tap to the end of the fuse, and re-insert the fuse. You will then have a tab that you can slip a spade connector on for power. I figured you would want the cb to turn on and off with the keyswitch? That is why I recommended the fuse box for power, since there are some switched power sources there. Go to the auto parts store and see if they have any of those "fuse taps" for your truck.

The rear lights will probably have only one wire coming out of them, unless they are plastic, or have plastic sockets. In the case of plastic, they will give you a ground wire too. Just find the brown wire, it will be the same one that runs to the license plate lights. Tap into it for the hot wire to the lights, and if you have a ground wire form the lights, bolt it to a good metal spot on the frame or bumper.

I am still guessing those extra wires are for trailering. They use a relay for the trailer running lights, and a seperate power source for the brakes on the trailer. It's still just a guess though.

My truck does have the push in fuses that you mentioned and I will definitely check into that item. The rear running light I found is the direct Ford unit that is put on the duallys, so attachment hopefully will be easy. Thanks for the info. on hooking that up.

In fact, thank you for your detailed replies!!! I am a pure novice and this kind of info. will allow me to do these things myself. Thanks again.
