85 Ranger Problem
Ok, i am new to this forum and i just got a 85 ford ranger. I bought it off the biggest liar i've ever met. He told me it needed a starter shim and a slave cylindar. So far i have a new slave, starter,resurfaced flywheel,and new ring gear. After i put all that in it i start it up and it idles fine. But as soon as i give it gas it bogs out real bad and dies. It is a 2.8 with a carb.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FTE Dakota360.
As with any "new" used car, you're going to have to got through most everything.
Start by checking for vacuum leaks. If you don't have a vacuum guage, go buy one, they're not expensive.

Vacuum leaks come to mind. several other things to check are the timing, and the fuel. The carb may be bad, it could be a fuel filter, or fuel pump. Check the plugs, cap and rotor, and wires, and if you can, do a compression check. It could be something as simple as the choke not opening. Check as many of those things as you can and keep us posted.

Carb sounds like a good place too, Spray carb cleaner down in it and pull throttle cable to full extension a few times to make sure when you are pressing gas it's not just dumping gas into it, flooding etc....I am an 85 S10 with 2.8L, not sure if they are the same motor or not but carb work is definately good on the oldies

i got a 2.8 in my 84 and i was lucky that i didnt have to rebuild the carb or anything... it sat in a guys yard for i dont know how long before i got it and all i did after i checked everything on it was put a lil gas in the carb and i had a batt. charger on it... hit the ket and it fired right up and welcome to the site hopefully it helps you out like it did me i learn new stuff about my truck everytime i get on here
