brake noise...?

95 f150

I just bought this truck about a week and a half ago and i thought i heard the brakes making a noise, like wear indicator or something. Usually if i press on the brakes on a hard but regular stop, you can hear it sqeak pretty well. But i just popped the wheels off and took one pad off and its got at least 3/4 pad left; same for the other side too... blah i dunno, this can't be a normal sound for a truck? guess i'll take the drums off now and see how they're doin, but the sound seems like its coming from the front... ugh...
well at least i know i'm not scoring the rotors anymore.

any ideas?

mike

JerseysBest; Sound like you could have a set of low quality brake pads, if pad quality is not to oem specs you could even
experience sounds like the pads were making metal to metal contact, high pitched squeals that you can not attenuate, massive quantities of brake dust on your wheels. I would recomend for you to just replace the pads with a set of low dust pads like the bendix titanium series.

Check both pads on both sides of the truck (inner and outer pad). My dad just had his truck in for a safety inspection and he needed new pads. So I went to replace them. One side had 3/4 of pad left on the inner and outer pad. I was wondering what they were talking about. So I checked the other side and the outer pad was the same but the inner pad was almost to the rivets. Good luck!

well, i checked both sides to make sure the inner pads weren't wearing faster, cause thats happened to me before, but the pads were even on both sides.
What i did so far, instead of throwing money at the problem, was grease anything that moves or vibrates; like the springs on the caliper, the backs of the pads and where the piston presses on the inner pad, i did it on the drivers side and the noise has gone down significantly, I'll do the pass. side sometime soon when i get a chance. hopefully this solves the problem. thanks for your replies.
and wow, they check your brakes during inspection?

For a safety inspection? Uhhhhh, YA! They are kind of a safety issue. If you have no pads left that's not safe........Makes sense eh?
