I was sitting at a light this morning admireing the beautiful Ford next to me. By the way it was a F-150 FX4 white with two tone arizona beige, with Goodyear Wrangler mud tires and a ranch hand on the front. Just before or just as the light is turning green (i can remember) i feel a jolt. The next thought through my head was "oh someone just rear-ended me. Where can i pull off to." So i find a spot and stop. I take a few seconds to gather what has happended and get out. When i get to the back of my Explorer i notice there is nothing wrong with it. The reciever hitch took the impact and put a nice hole in her bumper. I was fine and since there was no damage to my truck, i just got her name and we both drove away.
The only thing about this that makes me mad is that i didnt get any jewlery out of it . ie. bumper, radiator, serpitene belt, i'd even take the engine if i could. What i figgure is that when she hit me the reciever went straight through the bumper and hit the frame. By the way did anyone know that the front bumpers of saturn's actuall have a crushed styrafoam behind them.
My dad has an F-250 and got rear-ended once...the trailer hitch hit the engine block and pushed the engine into the passanger compartment where the radio was lol Destroyed the car but my dad needed a new bumper
Its only crushed styrofoam after you hit it. I believe they come from the factory uncrushed. But yes, its styrofoam. It sounds silly, but as for energy absorbtion in a collision, its pretty good stuff. Ofcourse its not structural, its for cushion.
I rear ended a guy once and had a grill guard on the front of my truck. I crushed his car and ended up with no damage to my truck due to the grill guard.

i was rearended about a month ago in the truck in my sig. needed a new bumper and exhaust pipes, but her car was totaled. engine parts were going through the dash of her car. thats the reason the passenger in the car hurt her ankle, parts through the dash!. the car crumpled like an accordian and, she basicly drove up under my truck and was impaled by my exhaust pipes. when i pulled off i had her front end connected to my exhaust.
I had a friend with a jacked up F250, with a custom built brush guard that would make a ranch hand look like it was made of sheet metal. Some old lady pulled out in front of us, we hit her, her car was totaled and my friend went up to her and was like "you scratched my brushguard, your gonna pay for that. Anyways, he got 200 bucks to have it repainted whenn all he had to do is touch it up with a rattle can.
Wow sorry I posted to this one yesterday at work ( construction site) a delivery truck backed into my truck as it was parked in front on my office trailer OFF THE ROAD. at least he admitted he did it. dented the side and broke out thetail light. Not the worst thing to happen but now I will probably get pulled over for a busted tail light. lol Oh well thats what insurance is for right?
My cousin got rearended twice in one week. He's got a 97 F-150 reg cab long box. just sittin at stoplights in the city. The first time there was no damage to his truck, just a scuff, not even a scratch, just a scuff. The second time he was a little worried because it looked like it really messed someting up. Untill he noticed it was just part of the car's grill hanging between his hitch and bumper. Only damage to his truck was a scratch on his bumper and he got a new bumper. I love trucks.
