I just ordered a 3" down pipe from GOS racing. 118 bucks shipped. I cant wait till the weekend to install it and try it out! Anybody got any installation tips for me??? Thanks for any input!
loosen both ends of the old, push it up as far as you can... from top, cut as low as you can with a sawzall and a 12" or so blade, dp should drop right out
My best advice is to buy a porta-power with the duck bill. I bought mine at Harbor Freight for about $95. True it's almost as much as the pipe itself, but the effort it saved me during install was priceless. I used the duckbill and a piece of 2x4 to bend back the fire wall. What would have taken me a half day to bend with pry bars and hammers only took me about 30 seconds. Go to Google.com and search Powerstoke downpipe install. I think there are one or two sites that have pictures on how to use the duckbill and do's and don't for install. I had my brother in law help me during install and it took about an hour and half. Loosen the bolts at the cat and loosen the collar around the turbo outlet, but DON'T take it off, just loose. Pull the DP away from the cat and rock it back and fourth to break it loose from the turbo. Take note of where the stock DP passes the fire wall because that's where you are going to bend it. There is a seam right there. I made two cuts in that seam with the sawsall after the DP was out about 5" apart so it would be easier to bend. Once it's loose from the turbo take a sawsall and cut the DP as far down the "cobra head" as possible, usaually about 3" or so. The rest of the stock DP should come out the bottom of the truck now. Take the turbo collar off and the rest of the cobra head. Then take your new pipe and stick it down in there to get an idea how much you need to bend. Bend a little, check it. Bend a little check it. You want to be able to get a finger all the way around the new down pipe so it doesn't rub under motor flex. Hope that helps.
