hum in speakers when power off
Factory AM/FM Cassette stereo; 5 1/4" pioneers in doors; 6x9" optimus (in boxes) in back seat; 100 Watt AudioVox Equalizer/Amplifier mounted under dash.
The original system was just the door speakers. The Eq/Amp allowed me to add the rear 6x9s. The eq/amp and stereo are plugged into the same "power" wire (just plugged the eq/amp wire in with the stereo's). The eq/amp is grounded on the bracket just below the stereo (I believe there was something else on that same screw, not sure).
The problem(s): When the truck is running there is a higher toned sound coming from the speakers. When I switch the eq/amp 'on' there is a "thump" in the speakers and the eq. lights jump once on the equalizer. If I turn the stereo on and turn the volume **** it goes nuts with static. Here's the catch: if I turn the stereo on but don't touch the volume for a few seconds, it won't have the static. Any suggestions on what could be causing the noise when power is off?
Is there a certain way to hook up power and ground the eq/amp?
Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks.
