My 2000 Expedition now makes a groan when starting from a stopped position with the wheels turned. it just started doing this. I swear i can feel it in the steering wheel a bit as well. It has all Wheel Drive all the time and I can also switch to 4 wheel drive high and low. Not real noticable but is this a problem? What's a fix for this?
The groan sure sounds like a brake pad dragging. If you can feel it through the steering wheel, I'd look at the front brakes first.
Just jack up one front wheel at a time and turn it by hand. There will be some resistance to turning, but you should be able to rotate the wheel and it should be quiet.
Rear brakes require you to get both rear wheels off the ground, but you can check them the same way.
