I have a 92 explorer, and yesterday someone hit me from behinde in a parking lot the bumper it self has no damage not scrached or have any paint on it, its just bent down a little bit it seems like they hit my tow plate. But any ways is there a way for be to bend the bumper back up some how, is so how? Do i have to put a whole new bumper on or what can or should i do, it was a buddy of mine that hit me and i would like to fix it while keeping the cost for him low but yet fix the car, any suggestions?
I had my bumper bent also. Took off bumper then disassembled it. Not many pieces. The one that was galvanized was the one bent. I took a sledge hammer to the galvanized piece on a hard surface and fixed it right up. Just take the time to check it before putting it back on.
It bends too easy.
Good luck.

my good friend has a 98 ford explorer and he got plowed from behind at only 10mph or so in the wintertime because of the snow, the guy who hit him at no ABS...figures. it cost $860 for a new bumper and both their insurance went up
Yea to be honest i got hit once before from behinde, i was waiting to turn left down my road not looking in my rear view mirror maybe 3 min passed and some girl hit me her car went under mine (little eclipse) ripped my spare tire off and bent my bumper down, i got 1000 bucks from her insurence company, my father is good friends with the owner of a ford dealer he replaced the hoiste and somehow got the bumper back up all said and done 175 made $$$ on that, year later i get hit again same thing except spare in tact bumper is fine just pushed down, i guess i could take it back to ford just hate not having a car figured i could do it myself
For future referrence you might try putting a reciever hitch on your car and keeping a ball atached to it all the time. I got rearended today and i put a nice hole in a saturns bumper and only had four scratches on the reciever. Here is a link to the post where i told the whole story. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=212541
hitch is a good idea as long as the persons who hits you is going slow, other wise the hitch is going to pierce there car and they are still going to hit your bumper good idea though will cause less damage. Also speaking of that, about a month ago i saw a F-350 PSD, dulley, it had a hitch on got rear ended by a older toyota suv, the hitch went though the radiator and the from of her car was completey smashed had to get towed away, while all the f-350 needed was a new tailgate that was the only thing that was dented
Since you said the bumper looks OK, the brackets must be bent or have moved. The holes in the bumper and/or brackets are usually slotted for adjustment purposes. Loosen the bolts/nuts, position the bumper back level and tighten back up. However, that is if the brackets are not bent.
Oldcar is right. You have break-away plates under the bumper for this reason. Look under the bumper for the bolts. Loosen them and turn your bumper back up.
I have had to turn mine back up twice. And the slide does make a nice indention on a smaller car. I was at a light when a guy in a Honda was hit from behind and pushed into me. When he hit and bounced off, the ball caught the bottom of his radiator (after going through the front end) and ripped it like bread. He got mad at me because I had the slide in. I 'gently' pointed him to the real culprit of the accident - the little girl driving daddy's BMW that hit him...
