How often do you have to change/add more oil to the rear and front end of a 4x4 truck? I just changed the pinion seal in the rear and added a quart of 80W-90 to it and was curious if i should have drained the entire thing and replaced with new or if what i did was ok, and if I should do the same on the front end?
Thanks
i agree with nascarmark, on my 4-wheeler, anytime i take it through a creak or river, i always change the oils..anytime your fluids have a milky appereance, means moisture is present
ford says every 100k miles. if the fluid has never been changed it would deffinately be a good idea to do so. i'm gonna do mine soon now that the weather is getting nicer.
Now i am curious about the Transmission and routine maintence for it. I have the T-18 4 speed tranny, what needs to be done to ensure the life of this cast iron beast
I'd like to jump in here if I could, with a related question: my '94 F150 2wd with 3.55.1 Traction Lok (posi) rear end has 90k on it, I'm thinking its time for a gear lube change, I've heard that I must get something called friction modifier from Ford and add along with the fresh gear lube for the posi unit, is this true? and if so can I use something else from anouther manufacturer instead? and would it be advisable to go to a synthetic lube at the same time? thanks for any imput.
