hi i have a 2000 250psd i have a 3.5" banks exhaust system now but was wondering about removing the muffler and going w/a straight pipe. has any 1 done this? if not does any 1 know of and adverse affects in doing this. any infe would be helpfull. thanks
Same here - I did it to my stock exhaust at first and the first day I was kicking myself - but after that - I'd never go back. I did it with my 4" when I got that too. Different sound - lots of turbo whine!! Won't hurt anything - just more sound out the pipe!
At first I didnt like it. But eventually it grew on me.
That's kinda how it went with me. At first I didn't like it, but eventually it got worse. But that's just me. I had to put a muffler on it. I don't always hot rod.
Just my $.02.
I straight piped mine a while back AND HAVE NO REGRETS..!! It is a little loud when your beside a wall or something but other than that I think it sounds great. Was also wondering what a difference it makes in EGT when you just replace the muffler with a straight pipe on a factory exhaust system?Surely it would have to help or would it?
hey guys, on mine 01 350 just straight piped it. it has stock pipes and raps just like it has a glasspack on it when you get the rpms up 2100 and higher. waiting on 45 degree tip.to aim sound down rather than out the side to cut down on echo. also going to try wicked wheel to see if it will stop some stall. all Ive down so far is open air intake with napa 6637 filter and the exhaust. but as far as noise goes its not bad at all until you get into it. 01psd
How loud is it going down the interstate? Does it sound like those honda's with the coffee can on the back. I use my x for traveling, put nearly 45000 mi a year. I don't want to do something that is going to drown me out down the highway, i don't need to lose my sanity over the exhaust.
blackx psd , no its not real loud, till you get into it then it starts papping, and it will echo off walls and buildings when you are in town. but when tip is put on it should not echo as bad.
I have the same banks exhaust on my 99,3.5 inch. I tried going with the straight pipe for a while, thought the sound would grow on me. But,I got to the point where I just couldn't stand it any longer and put the banks muffler back in.
The powersrtoke doesn't sound "cool" like a straight piped cummins does. When the waste gate opens it sounds like a sick jet. I even had some strangers come up and comment on how stupid the truck sounded.
I'd would have to say try it, just take the muffler off carefully so you can reinstall it.
thanks for the imput guys. ill have to try it and see how i like it, im sure i will i love thw sound it makes now driving past a wall or something for it to echo off of. thanks again
