I agree, some people dont like the sound of a straight pipe. I love it, even with a muffler you sometimes get flutter. I have had my Hypermax 5 inch exhaust on my 2001 since about 5,000 miles after i bought it and i now have 57,000 miles. I also have a Hypermax H2E turbo and it has changed the way the exhaust sounds, but I still get nothing but compliments or the occasional hand gesture from someone with their window open when i fly by them
I'm wanting to straight pipe my truck, but it will be a few months until i can buy the exhaust system. Will I gain anything if I just crawl underneath and saw off the stock muffler and leave it like that? Will I need to replace the removed muffler with another section of pipe, or can I just leave it short? Any suggestions?

I don't know if you would pass an inspection like that - but you could probably do that if you got a turn down tip to slap on the end. You don't want that hot exhaust blowing all over stuff back there! But I gotta believe you are gonna get a LOT more noise in the cab than a full system that's straight piped...
I bought mine straight piped, it is not as loud as you would think. My harley with mufflers and 73 mustang with dual mufflers are both louder than my truck. I also have no cat, where the cat was the exhaust splits so that it looks like dual exhaust.
actualy its not that loud in fact you have to have the windows down to hear it then only when you really get on it. but I whould not just cut muffler off. it whould be right under cab and thats good. I had local muffler shop make a section of pipe to replace the muffler. he did real nice job on it. he took a piece of pipe, and cut 2 notches then bent them to connect to tail pipe allowing exhaust to exit like it was stock. cost me 90 bucks. 01psd
I strait piped mine today with the Magnaflow Tunner. I have got some growing to do. I do not like the flutter. It sounds like a jake break only going the other way. (up) And thats only when I get on it. I have the motor back to stock for now waiting on my Preditor to return. I think it will get louder with the tune back in the truck. The good thing is I still have a brand new muffler to put on if I can't get used to it.
