Ok, why did Matt leave? I kidded about him taking too much ribbing over having the shop do some work for him, now that thread seems to have disappeared.
Matt sent me a personal note upon his resignation. More than anything he seemed burned-out. Also, despite the fact that all of us (or at least the overwhelming majority) were not malicious with our comments, I really think the "ribbing" exacerbated the situation. I asked Matt to stay on board and told him if he left we'd all miss him and his wit, but he seemed destined to leave. Hopefully, he'll find his way back one day.
If you're cruising around here Matt, thanks for all the service you provided. Your efforts were invaluable.
This is my last post on FTE. This is the letter that was sent to Ken:
It has become terribly apparent in the past few months that my presence on FTE is both unnecessary and unwelcome. I have considered several courses of action for my dilemma, and I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to leave. I can take a hint.
I humbly nominate *named removed until decision is official* as being the new moderator, as he is well liked among the other members and is quite knowledgable.
At some point, I may return under a different username, but it is highly unlikely.
I am only one man with one opinion. Unnecessary and unwelcome? Hardly. You exemplify exactly the person to own our vehicles. On a totally unrelated forum I was chased away becuase I was no expert. You welcome those with little knowledge and encourage their development. You sir are exactly what this forum needs.
Thank you for everything you have done. For the education, tolerance, humor.
Oh man, I can't believe BigMatt has left. I always looked forward to his posts. I thought we we're just kidding each other with exchanges about Nitto's and his new Dell and such. I had no idea Matt took those things personally. I really respected him for his knowledge of the vehicles, and his dedication to the membership, not to mention his well informed and insightful posts on the general site. I know I've only been a member for half a year, but from what I've seen, Big Matt's presence brought a lot of character to this forum.
I sincerely hope Matt will reconsider his decision to leave the forum. If not, he will be truly missed.
This is terrible. BigMatt was synonymous with Expy's. Please don't take the ribbing about someone working on your Expy as a personal attack. I can't find the spark plugs on mine and almost had to have someone change the bulb in my taillight. We will miss you here and in the Gen Discussion forums.
Matt, you truly will be missed on FTE. I hope that you re-consider your decision. Must sound like a broken record at this point but,,,,you did welcome people, me included, who had very little knowledge where other forums were nasty if you asked a simple question. The EOG and EOG2 you were working on was invaluable to us forum members. Yes, they might have been a little slow in getting out but,,,,lemme guess,,,,,,you have a life outside the FTE like most of us. The fact you were able to put the time in you did to the FTE was impressive enough. Maybe you should have had a little thicker skin for the ribbing or the ribbing should have been less severe but don't let a bunch of tools drive you out of Dodge. Come on Matt,,,,stay on board and don't fall off the wagon.
I don't know Matt personally, but understand that it must be a difficult decision for him if he was feeling "both unnecessary and unwelcome" to stay on as moderator. Perhaps a petition signed by the members of this forum asking him to stay on may be in order and I, for one, would be happy to add my name to it. Maybe with enough signatures, delivered with a request for him to stay on, would prove to Matt that his presence is more important than anyone has let on.
I have gotten more information and insight from the likes of Matt, Buzzard, FarmLaw and countless others than any book could have delivered and certainly more than my local dealership would ever provide.
You are welcome here anytime! I wish you would reconsider because you are a definite asset to this forum.
If the time involved with being a board moderator is too much, please at least consider sticking around to help others with your knowledge of these fine trucks we own.
No ribbing was ever meant to be malicious or hurtful...just guys flippin' crap.
I know my opinion is not worth much here, but I think BigMatt has to suck it up and stop being such a little girl. All these people aren't quiting on you, why should you quit on them.
As the old saying goes, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."
