Im looking for new axles to put on my 78 f-150 with a 460 and 40inch tires. Does anyone have any info for me on which size and brand to choose. Im looking at the DYNA TRAC and DTS axles. I cant decide to either put a dana 44 or a dana 60 in front with 4.88 gears. I only drive the truck on the road now and dont pull anything so any help will be great.
Your '78 F150 should already have a Dana 44 in the front, if it's a 4x4, and a Ford 9" in the rear. For street driving, you should be fine with those axles and the 4.88 gear ratio.
For off roading with 40" tires, the axles could be upgraded to Dana 60's with 5.13 or lower gears. I'm not familiar with Dynatrac or DTS. Currie Enterprises (the 9" axle people) builds custom axles for all sorts of vehicles. Might want to contact them if you are serious about upgrading your axles. Check out www.currieenterprises.com
