I have to admit it... I am addicted. I can't seem to pass up one of those things without dropping a few quarters in. The trouble is once you get pretty good at it, you've got more stuffed animals than you know what to do with, and yet you still have to try out any new machines you come across.
I just got back from a trip to Jacksonville, FL, and saw something that blew me away-- claw machines with live lobsters!! That's right, a big 'ol lobster tank with the familiar claw mechanism, and if you are lucky enough (at $2 a pop) to grab one, the bar or restaurant where the machine is located will cook it for free! Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I thought that was the coolest thing I have seen in a long time!
That is pretty cool! I'd have probably given the lobster thing a go.
There was a machine in a bowling alley where I used to bowl on a league and I just had that machines number for a few weeks. I would stand there and get stuffed animals for all the kids.
The funniest thing about claw machines, where there is usually not any toy in there that cost more then $0.25*, are the places that pack them in to make it hard to win.
I've never tried them, I'm too cheap, but my daughter-in-law is a whiz and wins a lot. We have a really cool and colorful octopus to show for it, among many other stuffed toys.
