I just changed my rotors and pads on my escape after 65,000 rotors were shot after 30000 I just replaced the pads the first time now I replaced the pads and rotors with wagner thermo quiet they tell me that they are low brake dust I hope so because
the OEM pads and rotors suck that were on there. Anyone has an input on this commit fee free to post.
The OEM pads are terrible and the dusting is bad. Not uncommon though since I see everything from Explorers to Mercedes with black front wheels. The Escape rotors are too soft and usually require replacement since they're too worn to turn.
I've got 56k highway miles on my original pads/rotors. The rotors have a big lip on the outside so they're worn out, the pads might last awhile longer. Wagner thermo quiet or Raybestos quiet stops are my pad choice. What rotors (hopefully not OEM) did you use? Also, have you replaced your master cylinder cap? The cap has a bad seal and most leak fluid.
The 2005 Escapes come with 4 wheel disc brakes. Now, four black wheels with soft rotors!
The brake fluid you noticed atop your reservoir is there because someone likely filled the fluid at one time when the brakes were worn. When you push the caliper pistons back to accomidate the new brakes, you force fluid back into the master cylinder. Next time you do a brake job, open the bleeder valve when you compress the piston. Then, top off the reservoir with fluid from a fresh bottle. The fluid behind your caliper pistons sees a lot of heat and breaks down the most. That's why it is a good idea to get rid of it when you can.
Wagner rotors are good American made rotors and in my experience offer a much better replacement rotor. Bendix is another good brand as they are made in Canada or in the US.
Clean your brake reservoir off and make sure the level is ok and the reservoir isnt cracked or anything like that. You should be alright.
