cv joint question
I just bought my second Aerostar a few months ago . A 1994 e4wd. This is my first 4wheel drive Aerostar . I also have a 89 with over 200k on it . I bought this van with a bad cv joint that was just flapping around under the van , it had been replaced recently . I installed a new half shaft and it lasted a month . I was looking at the driver's side and see a spacer where the half shaft meets the dana differential. The right side has no spacer . my question is, does the passenger side (right side ) require a spacer between the half shaft and 6 bolt flange on the front differential? I am on the third rebuilt half shaft and don't want to ruin it if there is supposed to be a 3/4 inch spacer on both sides. Is there some problems aerostars had with cv joints ? The suspension in front is tight and the mounting bolts on the front differential are tight . the washer is on the axle under the large lock nut. Is this van missing the spacer causing is to eat half shafts or could there be another problem?
This is a great forum that I have learned alot from.

Thanks very much for the info . I went to the scrapyard and got another endcap. ( $20.00 and they took it off for me )The dealer no longer stocks the endcaps . I'll put it on tomorrow if it doesn't rain . I guess the 3/4 inch does make a difference . Like you said the guy that changed the halfshaft before me must have thought it went with the old one . BTW I got the endcap from a 1992 aero and mine is a 1994 , the parts store says they take the same halfshaft , so it should work. I hope this fixes it up so I can drive it . So far I think it handles good in the snow. Like I said before this is a great forum , thanks again..
