It commonly gets in the 20's and lower here in Reno and I use Delo 15/40 all year. Alot of poeple use a 5/30 synthetic that Amsoil makes. Also I use no fuel additives, just good pump fuel.
I use an anti-gelling additive below 35*.
Below 0* I plug it in after letting it warm up completely.
sometimes you have to let it crank a bit longer? I have found counting to 10 after the light goes out before cranking helps???
keep in mind, I'm from Georgia. my cold weather is the last two weeks in november. (Deer hunting in upper Michigan) so, not a bunch of practice.
LAST EDITED ON 18-Oct-01 AT 03:54 AM (EST)[p] Here in Alaska most fuel stations sell a blend of #1 and #2 fuel, 50/50 mix. With this fuel I have not needed any additives.
The Temp here in the winter drops to -20 to -30 fot at least a week or two, but is normally about 0 to 20. I plug the truck in when it drops below 0 and it always starts right up.I also use Amzoil 3000 Synthetic 5W-30. Just remember to wait for the glow plugs to cycle before cranking, and drain the fuel water seperater often.
I work on the NORTH SLOPE of Alaska and all we drive up there is F350 CC PSD. In September the temps drop to -10 and stay below that until April. We start the trucks in late Sept and they stay running until April. When not driving them we plug them in and set the idel at 1200 RPM. The trucks seem to hold up fine to this and that is the way it has been done on the SLOPE for years.
