99 F250 Mirrors

I want to get bigger mirrors for my truck. Right now I have the small mirrors that came on the 99's. I just bought a 5th wheel so now I need more vision.

Since my mirrors are already automatic can the dealer add the big mirrors and get them working correctly. Has anyone done this? Is there a cheaper method - I dont want to lose my power switch to change positions while driving.

Any ideas tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I changed them on my '99, three bolts hold them on
and the plug in the door requires the door panel
to be removed to get at it. Pretty easy install.
Your 99 will have the round white plug on them, '02
and newer have the flat gray plug, if buy new ones
at the dealer the adapters come with the mirrors.
Usually several used sets on ebay. I went from tow
to the small for now because the '99 tow mirrors I
have are fixed in the extended position.

Cool

I just completed the mirror swap that you are talking about. Very easy conversion. I replaced my sport mirrors (non-heated) with a set of telo/heated mirrors that I picked up off of ebay for $235. I purchased a set of wiring adaptors from ford for $35 (as mentioned above, you will need this if you acquire a newer set of mirrors as the new ones have a different connector). Both sets of my mirrors had 4 bolts each. The biggest pain was adding the additional wiring for the heated option. I didn't want the mirrors heating element on full time so I installed a rocker switch. If you do a search on this topic you will find a lot of posts. Here is a link for removing the door panels.

Here is a link with pretty good instructions for the entire job, I had one with pics but I can't find it now. Anyway, I hope this helps..

Good luck.

I just did mine, great upgrade. Make sure you get the newer one that fold forwards and backward. The old ones didnt fold forwards so if you catch them on something backing up you kill the mirror.

Thanks! This has brought some good insight.

I dont need the heated mirror option. At least at this time I see no value. Can you elaborate - I live in an area where it is constantly warm. However, considering a move to the Oregon area so maybe I should think ahead and buy those. For now I would not need the heat as it gets 120 here in summer. So the rocker switch might be needed.

I think I would have the dealer put them in. Sound to time consuming. Did you guys think it was easy? Did they come with instructions.

I did the same thing on my 2000. The first side will take maybe 20 minutes and the 2nd side 10 minutes. Once you've pulled a door panel once, you can do it again in well under 5 minutes. There are just two 7mm? hex screws that hold it on.

I got my new mirrors on Ebay also. $220 for the heated ones from a 2002. If you don't want the heat, it should be less.

Your right about being 4 bolts (nuts),
I don't know why I was thinking 3, oh well....

Took me about a half hour to do both sides, was easy.

The actual mirror swap was easy but my originals did not have heat so I had to fabricate that circuit. That was the pain for me. I probably had about 3 hours invested in the project. I am sure that if I had not had those beers it would have gone faster. I didn't know about the newer mirrors folding forwards and backwards. I wonder if mine do......rats.

Found nothing worth buying on Ebay - will keep my eyes peeled. I imagine I will do the work myself. When you say you have to take off the door panel - do you mean that you need to take off the entire panel inside of the door? I noticed a big black plastic piece opposite side of the mirror. I think that might be what you guys are talking about. Gonna go check the junkyard tomorrow. Probably wont find those - but I am in search of some leather seats on a wrecked rig.

Thanks for the good info!

Pop off the plastic cover on the lower A pillar. Just pull til it comes off. Using a flat blade screw driver under the front of the switch panel, gently pry up and then pull the panel forward and up. Unplug the switch connectors and undo the screw. In back of the lower door reflector is the other screw. Pry the front out and remove it - door panel lifts up - it is held on by "hooks". Remove the speaker and the mirror wiring is in back of it. 4 nuts and the mirror is free.

OK... MTMike beat me to it..........

The black plastic piece just pulls off, 2 of the bolts are under it, the other two bolts are under 2 rubber plugs next to the plastic piece. The door panel has to come off to get to the plug for the mirrors which is in the door behind the speaker. If I remember right only 2 screws hold on the door panel, one is behind the lens of the light in the door and the other is under the elec window buttons.

Search for auctions by fmcparts32 it is a ford dealer in Ohio,
I bought some splash guards from them and they have listed
the genuine Ford tow mirrors for 249 a pair, buy it now.
I think the adapters and instuctions come with them.

Just keep watching what they post, if they have them, they will post them sometime. Try Item number: 2461023788, this was the last set they had on there, looks like the price went up to 269.
might try to e-mail them also. Good Luck.

Review the links I posted above and they have detailed instructions (the first has photos as well) on how to remove the door panels as well as swap the mirrors. You might check the dieselstop.com for mirrors for sale.
