We have a F250 Crew Cab Triton V10. Wanted to hear from other owners how their A/C works. Ours seems to take a while before it gets cool and even then does not seem to get very cold. We had a 95 F250 and it seemed like when you put it all the way to cold and max, it would really blow some cold air. The other day it took over an hour to cool down. Wondering if it is because they changed something or if it just isn't working right. Please let me know how your air is working.
Thanks
Ray
Sounds like there is a problem
my 99 used to get real cold within 4 miles usually had to turn the **** to warmer to keep from freezing this was a reg cab
my 00 psd sc takes a while to cool and I have to keep it on longer but it will still freeze within 15-20 minutes
I have a 2001 V10 and I have recently noticed that the A/C doesn't get very cold. It cools down the truck fast but it isn't as cold as other vehicles that I have had. I was thinking that it may be due to the whether in Las Vegas (107-110). I also notice that sometimes the A/C without the Max on is colder??? I may have to look into this more and let me know if you find out anything with yours.
I have a 2000 F250 Crew Cab V-10 XLT. The A/C is very cold. I have no problems. My dad has a 2001 xt cab V-10 Lariat and his does NOT blow very cold. Maybe it's an isolated problem.
I noticed the same with mine (colder without MAX). I live in Phoenix. Here's what I do to survive in this heat:
1)crack the window an inch - put on fresh air A/C
2)60 seconds later close window and put on MAX - full fan
3)approx 4 minutes slow down the fan speed, this allows the air to condense and cool before exiting the vent, sure it isn't blowing as hard but the air is cooler.
I think these R134 (or whatever) isn't as efficient as the old R-12.
Works for me. Give it a try. If not, get it into the shop. Don't need to sweat in $35K vehicles!

I have a 2000 F350 PSD SC SWR the A/C is very poor. Once the ambient temp gets above 95 this thing will not keep the cab cool no matter how long you run it, or at what speed you set the fan or temp setting.
It sounds like there are a few others that have the same problem. Sure does not seem right. I had it to the dealer they say all is normal. There has got to be a fix for this.
I'm curious if this seems to be a problem with the Super Cab. Maybe the volume of the cab is too large for the A/C.
Until recently, the ac in my 1999 F250 SD with v 10 didn't cool well. I used max all the time & still wasn't cool on a hot day. A trip to a different dealer solved the problem. They checked their TSB's & found one indicating the sticker on the truck that tells how much refrigerant to charge the system with is 1 pound short. The ac works fine now. I was cool on a 90 degree day last week. Have your dealer check their bulletins.
I have a 2000 SDCC. The A/C does not blow very cold. Had it into the dealer today and was told that all is normal. They said they did line pressure checks and stuck a thermometer in the center duct and all was within spec. If this is in fact true, the problem is simpily that Ford did not install a large enough evap coil on the crew cab trucks. Has anyone else had a similar experience? The dealership (service department) that I bought the truck from has been very up front and bends over backward to assure customer satisfaction whenever possible. (Ricart Ford, Columbus Ohio)
I have a 2001 F250SD v8 and the AC works great. I used it the other day when it was 91 out and the inside of the truck was about 110. It had the supercab cooled down in a few minutes.
I have a 2001 F250, SD, SuperCab, V10, and my A/C leaves very much to be desired. I have had it back to the dealer two times and the Ford District Service Rep was contacted this last time. He came up with nothing.
Something that got my attention was with the control just set on vent, when the outside temperature was only 66°and so was the vent air, I went to work, 12 miles / 20 minutes later, the vent was blowing 84° air. Why should the vent, set on the coldest setting, heat the air 18°?
The A/C has to be on MAX to do any good and I'm sure it must have to cool the heated air, which definitely is going to effect how it performs. Ford does not acknowledge this to be a problem. Well, I'm going to use this site for a reference.
I urge you all the send Ford an email about it at:
crcforddiv@customersupportctr.com
Let them know they have a serious problem with the A/C.
LAST EDITED ON 12-Oct-01 AT 03:25 PM (EST)[p]Did anyone ever find out anything definitive about this thread? I definitly have the same problem with a/c not cooling the cab enough and also with outside air being warmed 115 - 20 degrees when pulled through the vents. Have been told that all is within normal values and would like to have something definitive to go back to the Ford service people with. I looked at the tsb's and could not find any a/c notice for a 2001 f-350.
Thanks
Sorry - of couse that's 15 - 20 degrees, not 115! :0
As for the air warming when it is just on vent, I think it may be because the air passes through or past the engine compartment, unlike the old floor vents that use to actually work well. We have the same problem with our '91 F-250 with the vent. I was wondering if the A/C not working was when it was on recirculate. We have a car that freezes up if you use the recirculate to long. I don't know if any of this helps at all, but it's just my random thoughts
On my 02 SC/SD, the A/C will freeze you to death if you don't watch out! I think they changed the fan motors for either 01 or 02. Whatever it is, within a few minutes the truck is frosty! This is with Louisiana weather, too. Sub-tropical, sticky, hot weather...
i have a 2000 f250 psd. the trucks were filled 1 puond short. the dealer has a tsb on it. keep complaining until the add a puond. i have a temp. gauge in the center vent and it would read 40 degl at best until they put more in. now it runs down to 30 deg. i use to run full on in high ac now i need to turn the temp. up or it will freeze me out and i put out a lot of heat.
now how do we get the engine to run at 17--20 mpg. i get 13.5 and have 35k on it. the only mod. is a small tube before the dump valve that bleeds off a little vac. so it holds boost longer, and it didn't change anything.
