help bad transfer case, what to do know?
I have a 1979 f150 with a 390, c6, and np203. Last week i changed the lube in my np203 with a mixture a 80w-90 and 10w30. Since then my shifter has been moving and it has "*****" sounds and grinding sounds. I have it in nuetral and have moved it around many times. Before it was tricky to shift from low lock to high lock. Now the shifter moves and grinds and is a serious problem. It happens when driving down the road. I called a good mechanic and he said i might have a bent shifter fork and then he thought it was probally toast. I have not throughly examined the linkage yet but will soon. i wanted to ditch the transfer case and get a longer driveshaft but since the the c6 and case are connected he said i would need a different transmission and driveshaft. So could the current np203 be rebuilt and at what price. Or should i look for a cast iron np205. or would the lube I put in even cause this. I don't know why it would since it was over 3 quarts low in the first place. I try to prevent problems with preventive maintance and what do i get! Any ideas or suggestions on a swap or repair?
