just a thought. i am changing the oil in a 2000 craftsman tractor tomorrow for my neighbor and he hasnt changed oil at all since he got it 4 years ago. Since he will be buying the cheap quaker state dino oil, i was wondering if it would be OK to put a little bit of MMO in it even thought it has no full-flow oil filter?
MMO is not paint thinner or kerosene. I would not use diesel oil in it. Those engines usually use SAE 30 when they don’t have a filter. A few ounces of MMO won’t hurt but I would let it alone.
OK i phoned him he has no problem bringing it back in a month for another change because of the MMO. I will put a little in it because he said it runs like crap (well i guess so).
BlueRanger92, MMO is not just diesel, infact the base is oil of wintergreen. Smells like gum i think. The stuff works great, probably thins the oil a little, but that is not why it works, it works because it is a detergent. It cleaned out my chebbie engine, you should have seen the garbage come out of the engine, plus no more lift tapping on startup.
If he lets you do a full tune-up you might want to take the carb off and give it a good cleaning. I had a weed eater that ran like crap then I cleaned the carb and it ran like new. You might want to put a little MMO in the gas also.
