5.4 engine upgrade

I currently have a 5.4l triton but it just isn't strong enough for me and I am thinking of pulling it. Can these new motors be overbored like the older models and if so will it effect the computer controls in any way.

HI and welcome

what year is your truck? and is it a 4x4 and what gearing do you have??

I dont think that it would be a wise descision to pull the motor. The wiring and computers would be a handfull. If you give us some more info on your truck there is some ways to enhance the power.

I think the 5.4L is a big as it gets....at least there probably isn't much room for more.

If you've got an early 5.4L, try to get the PI heads and do some other tweaks, like a pair of cams....

If that ain't good enough, get a v10 F-250.

Yeah sorry about the lack of info there but hey...
ok so here we go I currently have a:
99 f-150 5.4 L, 3.73 rear-end, dual reversed glass-pack exhaust
Now let me explain a little more, my problem isn't really lack of power it is just really sluggish on low end torque. Plus I have a very annoying ticking in the engine right now, and figured hey if I gotta pull it, I might as well give it more ponies while I have it out.
As of right now I really don't know where the tick is at but it has been there for about 4 weeks now oil, water, belts, pulleys, every thing checks ok though.

your truck should move along pretty good with those specs, my truck has a similar set up except for i have a flowmaster cat back exhaust on mine.

I have heard from some people that the lack of backpressure in the exhaust will cause a slight loss in low end torque. a solution to this would be to get the superchips micortuner for your truck. it has 3 settings depending on what you want to do.

On the ticking it could be many things, try searching some more posts here to help find some clues to what it could be, and if you describe the ticking better people may be able to help you more.

How many miles on the engine???
And how much money do you want to put in to it??? A supercharger would help your problem

Well I would like to stay under 5 Grand or right at it. Right now I currently have 112,350 miles on the the odometer. Well not really sure how to describe it but I'll give it a try.
It is most noticable when comming back down from a high rpm, say cruising down the highway pull out to pass a car, accelerate, not hard but good enough to kick out of OD, pull back in and let off gas, Thats when its most noticable when it begans to slow back down. With the truck running I recently put it on my lift and it sounds to be in the engine oil pan. I was told it could be an exhaust leak but I've checked all the exhaust and didn't find any leaks so back to square one. Any help where or what to check is mucho appreciated.
