Question Favorite By-Pass Filter System

Read all the related posts for the systems via search here on the forum, and getting ready to purchase one, and switch to the by-pass and go to synthetic oil on my '02 Excursion 7.3 l.
I just hit 40k miles on her...so will switch now.

I know of the OilGuard system and Amsoil's, as well as the other toilet paper and paper towel systems......but the Oil Guard and Amsoil are "currently" on my list of finalists.

I am going to go to the complete conversion with the oil analysis every X thousand miles.

Love to hear your experiences and stories of install etc.....

Thanx in advance!

HR

I chose the Oil Guard bypass and staying with the Rotella 15-40 Dino.
No matter which bypass you go with you are more than likely going to have to fabricate a bracket of some kind to mount the fliter head(s) assembly.

Installation Pictures.

Talking Bi pass filter setup

Hawaii-rider,
I just finished installing a bi-pass filter settup for my PSD. I switched to Amsoil shortly after I bought my truck (used) but haven't had the time to install the bipass system till last week. My director in Amsoil makes the brackets and hi- pressure hoses for this system. He also sent some pictures describing placement of the filter system. I had to drill some holes in the truck frame but the installation went pretty well. No major leaks to contend with. I'm very please with the Amsoil itself though. With Rotella I noticed a power loss at about 3500 to 4000 miles, with the Amsoil I had almost 25,000 mile on this change and noticed no power loss at all. Nice not having to go thru the ordeal of changing the oil so often too. All I changed was the filter.
Good Luck!!! Paul

The Amsoil is a nice unit, but I chose the Oilguard for a couple of reasons. First, the Amsoil I was looking at was a dual bypass (BK16, I think) that replaces your current full flow filter and adds a bypass filter. As far as I could tell, the filter elements for both are from Amsoil and were rather costly. The Oilguard system just adds the bypass filter and the full flow filter remains stock. The Oilguard elements are $13 each. I can replace both the full flow and bypass filters for less $$$ than one of the Amsoil elements. The Oilguard unit was easy to install and it looks like the Amsoil unit is the same. I have read of people having to either make or purchase some sort of bracket for mounting the Amsoil unit. As for installation of the Oilguard system, check out my website at

for complete step-by-step instructions with lots of digital pics.
