Well I guess I'm disapointed in my week end tune -up!I changed everything plugs, cap, rotor, coil, pcv, wires, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, upper radiator hose, valve cover gaskets & last but not least. I set the timing ten btc wich was at the start @30btc. Now to the PROBLEM! In first all the power you could want from a 2.9.In second no power as in step on pedal nothing but gradule increase in speed. In third same thing.Once above 45mph no problems in 4th & 5th gears. Don't get me wrong I well aware that I'm Driving a V6 2.9L Not a V8 351w but some thing is not right. I'm thinking it may be in the fuel out-put! Should I change the fuel pump? Your help would be grateful...
Were the driveability problems there before you did the tune up? How about vac lines and any electrical connections associated with electric engine mamagement (computer stuff)? I'm also suspicious of the timing.
I tried to find a v-line off the dist but could not. I found the electrical connection pulled it off & the engine DIED! With that said I marked the pulley the loosened the dist & Ajusted the timeing.By all off your reactions I did something wrong? If I did I'll chalk it up to experience.Well what do you think???
Assuming the condition was not there before the tune up (???) then something didn't get done quite right. I don't know the proceedure for timing that particular motor, but the first thing I would try would be to advance the timing or to find and apply the correct process for timing. A Chiltons or Haynes would be helpful if you can get one.
If you reset the timing without the spout disconnected you should start there, 30' is about normal with the spout still connected. It should be near the passengers side valve cover.
