What type of setup do you folks have on your air inlet tube? I have a stock 95 mass air setup and am constantly soaking the air cleaner with mud and water. I swapped to a K&N instead of having to buy a new filter everytime I decided to go into anything deep.
I was looking at ways to keep the stock box, but seal it and feed it differently. Any suggestions? pics?
I would suggest an outerwears pre-filter if you have a K&N cone type filter. They are nylon and waterproof. Then you just take it off and wash it, and slap it back on.
if you are running in that much mud and water , you may want to consider a snorkel kit , any good off road shop should have a kit that you can make work or give you some ideas for making your own,bob
djoffroad- yeah, the K&Ns pre filters aren't waterproof.. The outerwears was big on ATVs (where I found out about them). Now they do cars/trucks as well..
Its the standard replacement K&N. Its rectangular, like the stock one. I really don't want a snorkel on this truck, since that is far from being its' main purpose.
I was looking to see if any of the outwear prefilters would work in my application. I had something similar on my carbed 350 in my jeep. I didn't see anything promising. http://outerwearsracing.com/truck_su...ar=filter#ford
I might check out the conical setups and see if I can build a guard around one of those.
Cool, as soon as I find the one I need, I'm going to order it.
I noticed it did say "water repelent", not water proof. An important difference if your filter is not as high as mine. I think the K&N brand actually accelerates water
I believe the ones they sell are for the conical FIPK setups..
I do believe that K&Ns suck more water. I had a K&N and outerwears on my ATV, and I got a lot of water in the air box, and it kept it from sucking it in... which is a good thing..
Do that with an outerwears, it'll definately puddle up, and doesn't want to go through.
the other cool thing is if you get a ton of mud on it, you can pull it off, and wash it in a realitively clean stream, and put in back on (they don't take long to dry).
It'll definately keep your usual water splashes out, but you'll still need a snorkel if you go under..
I'm glad you posted that, that was a nice wall of water & mud that came over the cab when we hit that hole. I think I remember yelling "periscope up!"....lol.
