4-speed?

What 4 speed tranny will work in a 1970 f-100 with a 302, and 3 speed. I would like to swap out the 3 speed fo a 4 speed, is there any direct swaps?

There is a chance that the bellhousing may be the same. I am not absolutely sure though.

the 302 bellhousings i would think are all the same, one off of a 300 or 351W will work also. Flywheels should be the same i think. I am pretty sure the flywheels are engine specifiec, and either auto or man tranny.

That's good news. Is the 435 only come with the granny, or can you get a normal 4 speed version, like the muncie, which is another question, did muncie only make tranny's for the bowtie?

Cant you put a toploader in there, just like the mustang? Thats a bulletproof regular 4 speed w/o granny gear.

Now that would be sweet, but I think the toploaders use a different cltch set up, and yoke. I am looking for an easy swap, It would be nice if an early mustang tranny would work, I will have to do some more research as to whats available, I wonder if advanced adapters has anything for putting the m-21 rock crusher in there, that's a killer tranny.

The Ford 3-speed, NP235, and BW T-18 all use the same bellhousing and flywheel. I had all 3 on an old 66 F-100 w/ 390.

The only difference is usually in the clutches... specifically the tooth pattern.

one last question, so far very good information. What about the driveshaft, do they share the same yoke, or are they different?

This is what I was getting at. The transmission pattern on the bellhousing itself is usually the same from make and model variations. I have about 3 different bellhousing laying around, and I think all had a different transmission bolted to them. But each housing is near identical.

X-1, I think he means NP435.

yes, my mistake, but also available for the smallblocks. Got to thinking about input shafts, and with a different clutch it wouldn't matter, dumb question on my part. What about lentgh of trannys, and out put shafts, will the same driveshaft work with a np435 as with a 3 speed? Hey, while I am asking what about tranny mount, same mount?
