My Door Ajar lite is driving me nuts...sometimes it goes out but most of the time it comes on....Can't even figure which door it is...is this a common problem? Any fixes or disconnect hints...
Inside your doors are the sensors that turn on your interior light. Spray a healthy quantity of WD 40 into one door at the point where it latches. If that doesn't work, do the other side. Don't be surprised if you use a can on one door.
The sensor is inside the door and located at the latching mechanism. If I remember right the driver side sensor faces down and the passenger sensor faces up. Usually this will fix it. It might need a second treatment occasionally.
According to the dealership service department where I bought my truck, this is a very common problem. I have had the problem twice and cleared it up both times by cleaning the exposed metal tip on the latch assembly. It is visable when the latch is unlatched. The dealership service department recommended spraying a silicone lube into the latch assembly. Also, I was warned against using something like WD-40 as it may be flammable. Since this is an electrical connection, that may or may not be something to consider. I still can't figure out why they went away from a simple pin switch assembly on the door pillar. They would work for years with no trouble. Good luck.
