Question FE engine design....

ive got a fe and am wondering why ford chose to put the pushrods though the intake? what adavange could this have, i all know is that its a pain in the rear when you repalcing the intake seal cause youce gotta take of the rockers and stuff, just more work. i know the fe family was used in racing at one time.

Never figured it out, in all my years. No advantage in it, and I don't know another engine with this design.

Looking at one I would have to say it had to do with the intake runner angle and keeping the intake low, meaning carb clearence to the hood when the FE's were first out into cars that had hood clearence issues. Thats what im going with but im probably wrong.

Look at it as an advantage:

Way less head area to deal with when porting.

Repace with an aluminum manifold and lose about 70 pounds.
